Inspired Happy - Thursday

Saturn 5 once again stuck in my head
Inspiral Carpets on stage

It seems I’m absolutely hopeless at blogging at the moment, but I’m going to try and get this up before I go and forget. A Thursday a, er, few weeks ago Jan and I went to see a gig with the Happy Mondays original line up (together again for the first time in umpteen years) supported by the Inspiral Carpets, at Newcastle Academy.

I should probably confess at this point that the Inspirals confuse me. I like their songs, sing along to the catchy lyrics, and then the bouncy organ comes in and I don’t particularly get why. Maybe that’s just my overly guitar driven taste. It doesn’t mean I don’t like them, it just means they, well, as I said, confuse me.

That said, I did sing-along and bounce around, and wasn’t even too bothered by the organ interruptions (we didn’t get Clint Boon on the organ, for rather sad reasons). All very bouncy and jolly, a pretty damn fine warm-up to the main event (I’d post a set list, except I’ve no idea what it was, and neither does the internet it seems. Oh, and I’m going to have Saturn 5 stuck in my head again now).

Unfortunately my phone died at some point during the Inspiral’s set, so no hastily snapped photos of the Happy Mondays to post. I might not have taken many anyway, given how involved I was in dancing quite close to (and against) certain lady. The Monday’s certainly got the floor moving, dancing around like the briefly present Bez (poor lad can’t keep up these days, vanishing after the first couple of songs to not reappear until the end). Shaun still doesn’t have anything like a classic singing voice of course but, to borrow a phrase from the support, they were cool as fuck.
