I have a degree in physics and now specialise in surface science, studying for a PhD with the Surface Physics Group at the University of York.

Having achieved a Master of Physics (MPhys) degree from The University of Newcastle Upon Tyne I went on to study for a PhD in the Physics Department at the University of York. There I have worked with the Surface Physics Group to study a variety of materials. We have a particular interest in two dimensional rare earth silicides. The group is one of the main users of the Daresbury MEIS Laboratory. As well as performing MEIS offsite the group also has two STMs, a fully hemispherical LEED and other cutting edge apparatus. Here I briefly try and describe some of the things I do, and point towards further resources (why reinvent the wheel, hey?).

Medium Energy Ion Scattering: A lesser known technique of surface physics, MEIS is ideal for studying surface interfaces. In this section I look at the technique and present some resources I've collected.
Scanning Tunneling Microscopy: STM is one of the most powerful (and visually stunning) techniques available to the surface scientist. This section describes the technique, gives some examples of my own work and points to more information.
Low Energy Electron Diffraction: A ubiquitous technique in surface science, offering everything from a quick diagnostic tool to a full structural analysis. This section gives brief details of the technique and information on further resources.
Resources: I've collected several programs, in various areas, which some might find useful. They are collected together here for convenience more than anything else.
Links: Useful physics related links. A collection of links to various resources, groups and sites with useful information. Almost an online bookmark repository for me.
